Dental care procedure

At our dental practice Zahnärzte am Löwenplatz in Zurich, we examine the current condition of your teeth, mouth and jaw precisely and completely painlessly. If you wish, we will be happy to explain the individual treatment steps and the purpose of the equipment used during the check-up, should you feel anxious or have any concerns. Before we start examining your oral situation, we will take a medical history. This is a questionnaire about general illnesses, regular use of medication or allergies. This enables us to get to know your medical history so that we can tailor subsequent treatment concepts to your individual needs. We ask our anxious patients in particular to contact us at any time if they feel unwell, so that we can make the check-up particularly pleasant and stress-free for you.

Finally, we use a mouth mirror to check your teeth and oral cavity for diseases or defects. By examining the condition and hardness of your tooth enamel, for example, we can determine whether Calculus is present. If you have fillings or dentures, we will also check their condition.

During dental care, you may experience a slight scratching noise. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented, but you will not feel any pain.

Gum examination

Equally important is the examination of your periodontium and your gums. We use the Periodontal Screening Index (PSI) to check whether your periodontium is suffering from inflammation, also known as Periodontitis. A periodontal probe can also be used to measure the depth of your gum pockets. If you experience bleeding gums during dental hygiene at home, you may feel a slight tingling sensation during this measurement.

To prevent almost all general dental diseases, it is just as important to have your teeth professionally cleaned twice per year thoroughly. This is the only way to completely remove the hard Calculus from your tooth surface. At our dental practice Zahnärzte am Löwenplatz in Zurich, we use state-of-the-art ultrasonic instruments to gently and precisely clean your teeth (EMS). This helps to prevent the development of Caries and the accumulation of bacteria. We optimize the cleaning effect with the additional use of water and a thorough polishing of your teeth.

By X-raying your teeth and jaw, we can detect the presence of caries under fillings or root inflammations as well as all type of other possible problems.
